About the role

Join us as a Regional Underwriting Specialist - APAC Financial Lines to step up to a key team leadership role that will drive business growth.

Responsibilities

  • Provide product and portfolio level support to the Head of Financial Lines
  • Develop and execute business strategy to propel AIG Financial Lines into a significant and profitable long-term, sustainable leadership position in the APAC marketplace
  • Ensure the required standards of governance, systems and controls, and regulatory compliance are established and maintained
  • Communicate to APAC countries the broader International and Regional Financial Lines strategy as it corresponds to local market dynamic, challenges and opportunities
  • Drive the APAC Financial Lines vision and value proposition in close co-operation with Country GM’s and the GI International Financial Lines function
  • Develop, position, market, and deliver innovative, market-leading products and services through our geographical framework to a network of producers in a manner that effectively leverages our strengths as a competitive differential in the marketplace
  • Drive underwriting excellence across the Financial Lines business in collaboration with the CUO, by establishing and ensuring adherence to risk appetite, line setting, standards and guidelines, and ensure rating and pricing adequacy
  • Ensure alignment amongst Financial Lines underwriting staff and leads on interaction with Client and Broker Engagement, other underwriting business lines, Claims, Actuarial, Finance and other functions to achieve product and company goals
  • Collaborate with Actuarial on creating and maintaining proper pricing tools and technique
  • Conduct detailed portfolio reviews to assess profitability, rate adequacy, product/segment mix, and general adherence to agreed strategy
  • Establish strong relationships with Regional and Country leadership; create mutual understanding of overall Financial Lines strategy, underwriting methodology and the risks we assume to drive effective execution of the business model
  • Support country teams where needed to help maintain key client and partner relationships across APAC
  • Support team(s) in making business decisions that leverage their expertise and experience in combination with powerful, analytical models
  • Engage with local teams on resource allocation decisions for the Financial Lines Underwriting function in conjunction with Country GM
  • Develop tools and strategies, in collaboration with HR, to attract and retain top industry talent and develop high performing teams
  • Drive a culture that promotes collaboration, diversity and inclusion
  • Collaborate with Claims team to ensure a reputation of Claims excellence in the marketplace
  • Monitoring market developments/trends & intel on competitors

Requirements

  • Strong record in an underwriting role, specifically in Financial Lines technical area
  • Strong technical Financial Lines skills and a solid understanding and knowledge of the APAC insurance market
  • The ability to underwrite Direct and Facultative Reinsurance Business
  • Experience with Major Account Underwriting
  • Strong relationships with Global, International, National and Reinsurance Brokers and Cedants from around Asia
  • A strong people person with the ability to collaborate and work with and motivate individuals and teams
  • A profitable growth mindset backed by underwriting excellence
  • The ability to understand and manage a portfolio of business in detail, to make the best possible strategic and tactical decisions to improve profitability
  • Strong communication and PC skills; analytical skills; knowledge of commercial insurance products; knowledge of underwriting concepts, practices, procedures and techniques
  • Budget development and expense control skills; ability to manage the business performance of multiple underwriting units; ability to develop and implement underwriting and marketing strategies
