About the role
As an Associate Commercial Counsel on the Global Media Partnerships subteam, you will work on negotiating, drafting and analyzing a wide variety of film, television, and sports digital distribution licenses for YouTube and YouTube TV as part of Google's growing digital media business.
Responsibilities
- Negotiate, draft, and review intellectual property licenses focusing on digital content distribution across YouTube’s major media subscription and content offerings (YouTube TV, PrimeTime Channels, Major Media AVOD, TVOD and FAST linear).
- Advise executive management, business clients, as well as finance, product, and other company colleagues on legal issues and risks, agreement structure, negotiation strategy, and company policies and procedures.
- Provide Business Development, Strategy, Product Management, and Marketing teams with legal guidance on compliance with applicable license agreements and related contracts, U.S. regulatory matters, and internal approval processes.
- Support contractual analysis and diligence across existing agreements in support of product feature launches and enablement.
Requirements
- JD, LL.B., equivalent degree, or equivalent practical experience.
- Admitted to the bar and in good standing or otherwise authorized to practice law (e.g., have registered in-house status) in the state in which the position is located.
- 3 years of attorney-level experience in government, in-house, or at a law firm.
- Experience with the film and television distribution, intellectual property/agreement law, and agreement drafting.
- Preferred qualifications: 4 years of experience in the broadcast or cable television industry.
- Experience with emerging forms of content distribution, including direct-to-consumer and advertiser supported content distribution.
- Experience advising and negotiating commercial transactions in the broadcast or cable television industry, and drafting complex content license agreements.
- Familiarity with licensing various types of content including film, television, and sports rights.
- Understanding of the United States communications law.
- Ability to be comfortable escalating and presenting key issues to executive management.
