Lead Data Engineer – Gen AI – Travelers Careers

• Lead Design, development configuration, and/or maintenance for Gen AI applications
• Support the creation of Gen AI products within our cloud environments
• Guide and coach technical team members
• Collaborate with tech/data partners, business stakeholders, data scientists and engineers to create Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) solutions and integrate LLM models into production-grade applications
• Develop APIs and microservices to facilitate data access and integration across various components of the Gen AI platform
• Implement best practices for code quality, testing, and documentation to ensure the reliability, maintainability, and scalability of our software systems
• Stay up-to-date with the latest trends and technologies in data engineering and Gen AI, applying them to enhance our platform
• Perform other duties as assigned

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field; Master’s degree preferred
• Ten years of programming/development experience preferred
• Four years of Tech leadership experience
• Proven experience as a Full Stack Designer / architect or similar role, with a strong focus on data engineering and Gen AI applications
• Proficiency in programming languages such as Python and SQL
• Familiarity with cloud platforms such as AWS and related services (e.g., AWS Lambda, S3, EC2, RDS, Redshift)
• Experience with containerization and orchestration technologies such as Docker, Kubernetes, or ECS
• Strong understanding of database systems and data processing frameworks (e.g., SQL, NoSQL, Spark, Databricks)
• Good understanding and experience of Gen AI concepts like Agentic Frameworks, RAG, LLM, Chunking, and Hyper-parameters
