Responsibilities

  • Ensures that every patient has a documented and purposeful nurse leader round every day.
  • Validates and holds staff accountable for purposeful hourly rounding.
  • Unit performance is measured through HCAHPS scores.
  • Acts as the charge nurse/nurse leader of the unit for each regular shift assigned.
  • Coordinates unit staffing for shift as described by staffing grid.
  • Coordinates appropriate staff assignments for shift based upon patient acuity and staff competency.
  • Documents staffing for shift in the assignment books on each unit.
  • Gives feedback to the Director and/or House Supervisor on staffing of the unit.
  • Assists with contacting staff for unit coverage as needed.
  • Explores and implements strategies to reduce productivity costs on the unit.
  • Participates in peer interviews for potential new staff.
  • In collaboration with Director, conducts performance evaluations of staff assigned.
  • Gives suggestions and feedback to Director for corrective actions or recognition of their staff members.
  • Is an active participant in shared governance including unit based counsel and the peer review processes.
  • Contributes to the professional development of self, peers, colleagues and others by facilitating a positive orientation experience for our new employees through role modeling and the demonstration of our team oriented environment.
  • Acts as a super-user on the unit and assists staff with various computer application uses.
  • Assists staff in competency validation for unit based skills.
  • Ensures staff have the tools and equipment needed to do their job.
  • Ensures tools and equipment are working properly and notifies the appropriate parties when repair is needed.
  • Notifies Director of unit needs for next budget planning sessions.
  • Ensures and promotes efficiency through ED throughput initiatives with timely discharges, timely bed assignments, and timely admissions from the ED.
  • Promotes staff to utilize the one call process consistently.
  • When holding pts in the ED, works closely with Director, physicians, charge nurses, and house supervisor on discharges and status changes to provide adequate bed availability to the ED.
  • Ensures these processes are continuously followed even if patients are not in hold status.

Requirements

  • RN
  • Registered Nurse - State Licensure and/or Compact State Licensure in the state of Texas or in a qualifying compact state.
  • 1 year of recent experience in an acute care facility successfully demonstrating skills in assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating patient care
