Senior Software Engineer, On-Device Health Agentic Systems - Jobs - Careers at Apple
Responsibilities
- Design and build the core architecture for on-device agents and the tools they will use
- Integrate on-device LLMs to run efficiently on iOS devices
- Engineer a seamless system that can execute agentic workflows and tool calls both on the user's device and on a personal computer
- Design and build robust integrations with on-device databases
- Create a flexible and scalable tooling framework that allows agents to interact with various applications and data sources on the device
- Continuously monitor and optimize the performance of the on-device agents
- Serve as a technical leader within the team, providing guidance and mentorship to other engineers
- Partner with product managers, UX designers, and ML researchers to translate product requirements into technical specifications
- Develop and deploy Agentic Large Language Model (LLM) features that run directly on Apple devices and servers
- Work on a mission-critical system that empowers users with intelligent, context-aware, and autonomous capabilities
- Prioritize user privacy and on-device performance
- Design and build the agentic reasoning and planning layer, the on-device tool registry, and the data-flow pipelines
- Integrate on-device LLMs to run efficiently on iOS devices, managing memory, power consumption, and compute resources
- Hybrid On-Device/PCC Architecture: Engineer a seamless system that can execute agentic workflows and tool calls both on the user's device and on a personal computer
- On-Device Data and Input Integration: Design and build robust integrations with on-device databases
- Tool Building and Management: Create a flexible and scalable tooling framework that allows agents to interact with various applications and data sources on the device
- Performance and Privacy Optimization: Continuously monitor and optimize the performance of the on-device agents
- Technical Leadership: Serve as a technical leader within the team, providing guidance and mentorship to other engineers
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner with product managers, UX designers, and ML researchers to translate product requirements into technical specifications
- Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience
- Preferred Qualifications: Experience working with on-device LLMs or other on-device ML models, hands-on experience with agentic frameworks or tool-use architectures
- Strong skills in Swift and at least one other object-oriented programming language
- Experience with on-device databases, multi-platform development, and distributed systems
- Knowledge of model quantization, pruning, and other on-device optimization techniques
- Experience with client-server communication
- A track record of leading complex technical projects from concept to launch
- A passion for building innovative user experiences
- Exceptional problem-solving and analytical skills
- The ability to thrive in a fast-paced, ambiguous environment
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to articulate complex technical concepts to a variety of audiences
Requirements
