• Manage the profitability, growth, and retention of one or more business lines within a region.
• Partner with FPL and business unit leadership to develop and implement short and long-term business strategies to increase the business unit’s presence in the market, retain the appropriate mix of business, and achieve profit and growth objectives.
• Effectively manage local strategies, objectives, and tactics concerning relationships with brokers and agencies.
• Underwrite and skillfully negotiate the most complex, at-risk, or hard-to-close deals.
• Provide direction and coaching to others in closing challenging deals.
• Cultivate and maintain relationships with external partners as well as internal partners across Business Insurance and the enterprise to create sales strategies and identify cross-selling opportunities.
• Regularly meet in person with agents and brokers and have the ability to travel to these meetings.

• Bachelor’s degree
• Ten or more years of relevant underwriting experience with experience in commercial lines.
• Six or more years of people management experience.
• Expert level knowledge of Ocean Marine products, the regulatory environment, and the local insurance market.
• Strong critical thinking skills with the ability to proactively identify underwriting, marketing, or financial challenges and analyze available information to make timely decisions in alignment with our risk appetite.
• Excellent communication skills with the ability to successfully negotiate in the most difficult situations with agents and brokers.
• Demonstrated leadership and strategic capabilities (regional strategies, staffing plans, etc.).
