About the role
A high school special education teaching position is available for the 2025-2026 school year in Washington Navy Yard, DC. This contract role focuses on delivering tailored instruction within a co-teaching format and self-contained classroom settings, primarily supporting 11th grade English Language Arts students with learning disabilities.
Responsibilities
- Teach four periods of co-taught ELA classes with approximately 20 students per class who have learning disabilities.
- Manage one self-contained classroom serving 10 students, supported by dedicated instructional aides.
- Collaborate with general education teachers and support staff to develop and implement individualized education programs (IEPs).
- Monitor student progress and adjust teaching strategies to meet diverse learning needs.
- Maintain a positive and inclusive classroom environment that fosters student growth and success.
Requirements
- Valid special education teaching certification; out-of-state licenses considered (preference for candidates licensed in the DMV area).
- Experience teaching special education, particularly with learning disabilities in a high school setting.
- Ability to effectively co-teach and independently manage a self-contained classroom.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills.
