About the role

As an Assistant Underwriter, a typical day would include: Responsible for underwriting of insurance products and progressing the portfolio of the Property business including Fire and Terrorism. Working with members of the team where higher authority levels are required.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for underwriting of insurance products
  • Progressing the portfolio of the Property business
  • Maintain profitable renewal accounts
  • Assist in the achievement of financial plans and business strategies
  • Maintain close rapport and relationship with brokers
  • Develop a multiline view of some of our key clients’ relationships
  • Secure additional information where necessary
  • Analyze all pertinent data to determine acceptability of risks
  • Review endorsements on existing policies
  • Evaluate, accept, reject or modify risks within established underwriting guidelines
  • Assist in preparing submissions for higher review
  • Ensure that systems are updated with the correct data
  • Coordinate with the support team
  • Assist in performing peer review and audits
  • Perform ad hoc projects and other related duties

Requirements

  • Diploma, Bachelor’s Degree, Business Degree, relevant Insurance qualifications or equivalent
  • Demonstrated underwriting ability and technical competence
  • Analytical skills and ability to evaluate and judge underwriting risks
  • Effective communication & interpersonal skills
  • To be self-motivating with a drive for self-improvement and progression
