About the role
Imagine what you could do here. At Apple, new ideas have a way of becoming extraordinary products, services, and customer experiences very quickly. Bring passion and dedication to your job and there's no telling what you could accomplish! Dynamic, smart people and inspiring, innovative technologies are the norm here. The people who work here have reinvented entire industries with all Apple Hardware products. The same passion for innovation that goes into our products also applies to our practices strengthening our commitment to leave the world better than we found it. Join us to help deliver the next groundbreaking Apple product. Do you love working on challenges that no one has solved yet?
This role is all about making systems that have never been made before. Building and integrating complex components, working with cross-functional engineering teams, and making devices that live up to high expectations. This role requires an engineer who is not afraid to take on challenges, and knows how to balance innovation with practicality. You will work with members of the cross-functional engineering team to define and implement custom hardware that supports and drives our prototype platforms and instruments. You will be expected to reduce high level feature requests to practical and implementable hardware designs, while understanding and balancing implementation tradeoffs.
As a Hardware Design Engineer, you will have the following responsibilities:
• Gather, understand, and negotiate analog/mixed-signal circuit requirements with cross-functional team for high performance data acquisition systems
• Design and characterize highly optimized (size, power, performance) circuits against agreed-upon requirements
• Work with cross-functional team to ensure cohesive operation of the circuits within their subsystems, and the subsystems within the context of the system
• Work with EE team to develop test PCBs and form factor PCBs with these circuits
• Work with EE team to scope, specify, and guide the design of custom ICs implementing the circuit architecture if required
• Bring up, test, and validate circuit functionality and performance of circuit implementations on PCBs and custom ICs
- BS in EE or related field
- Experience with design and analysis of analog/mixed-signal circuits
- Experience with bringup, testing, and debug of analog/mixed-signal circuits
- Experience with standard lab equipment(e.g. multimeters, oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzers)
- 3+ years of post-undergraduate experience in electrical engineering
- Skilled with designing low noise, low drift, high accuracy analog circuits
- Skilled with creating and using sophisticated test setups for validation of high performance analog circuits
- Skilled with circuit simulation tools (e.g. Hspice, LTspice, Spectre)
- Experience with specifying custom analog ICs
- Familiarity with schematic capture and PCB layout of multi-layer boards (4+)
- Experience with various system modeling and simulation tools, such as ANSYS, Verilog A/MS, Simulink, COMSOL
- Experience working with systems that include analog sensors, ADCs, FPGAs, embedded microcontrollers
