About the role
The Deputy State Fire Marshal (WPEA)- Prof. Development & Response supports the mission of the agency by working to reduce our citizens' vulnerability to fire, crime, terrorism, and natural hazards.
Responsibilities
- Research, development, maintenance, revisions of standards, and day-to-day work and oversight of assigned program objectives
- Develop procedures for review and final adoption in compliance with accreditation entities
- Develop and provide testing requirements to evaluate occupational competencies
- Manage the firefighter certification test item bank
- Score and process written/computer-based exams
- Provide technical support to test personnel
- Coordinate and participate in technical advisory groups
- Maintain test administration personnel records
- Coordinate the development and maintenance of the firefighter certification database
- Participate in day-to-day activities within the program
- Make recommendations for necessary program improvements
- Represent the Fire Protection Bureau to external stakeholders and other groups
- Support the Emergency Operations Center and field response functions during fire mobilization events
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED equivalent
- Valid, unrestricted Washington State Driver's License or able to obtain one within 30 days of employment
- Successful completion of a pre-employment polygraph examination and background investigation
- ICC Fire Inspector 1 certification within 6 months of employment
- ISFAC or Pro Board accredited NFPA Fire Instructor 1 certification within 1 year of employment
- NWCG or FEMA certification in I-100, I-200, I-300, IS-700, IS-800 within 1 year of employment
