About the role
DSHS Lake Burien Psychiatric Youth Counselor 3
Responsibilities
- Provide coaching, mentorship, and daily living support to a small caseload of youth
- Implement evidence-based, trauma-informed practices and behavioral interventions
- Monitor and document youth behavior, progress, and clinical observations
- Intervene in crisis situations using approved de-escalation and crisis intervention techniques
- Support therapeutic programming by leading structured activities and maintaining a safe, therapeutic environment
Requirements
- Knowledge of adolescent development, age-specific care, and mental health concepts
- Familiarity with evidence-based practices such as Positive Behavioral Support, Therapeutic Options, and Dialectical Behavior Therapy
- Ability to de-escalate behavioral health situations in a calm, non-threatening manner
- Understanding of interpersonal dynamics and community resources
- Effective verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team
