About the role

DSHS Lake Burien Psychiatric Youth Counselor 3

Responsibilities

  • Provide coaching, mentorship, and daily living support to a small caseload of youth
  • Implement evidence-based, trauma-informed practices and behavioral interventions
  • Monitor and document youth behavior, progress, and clinical observations
  • Intervene in crisis situations using approved de-escalation and crisis intervention techniques
  • Support therapeutic programming by leading structured activities and maintaining a safe, therapeutic environment

Requirements

  • Knowledge of adolescent development, age-specific care, and mental health concepts
  • Familiarity with evidence-based practices such as Positive Behavioral Support, Therapeutic Options, and Dialectical Behavior Therapy
  • Ability to de-escalate behavioral health situations in a calm, non-threatening manner
  • Understanding of interpersonal dynamics and community resources
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team
