Responsibilities
- Assist in the task of cleaning job sites at the end of a project.
- Preparing equipment and jobsites before project starts.
- Delivery of goods and equipment to the jobsites in a timely manner.
- Installation of erosion control measures such as deploying floating silt booms, straw wattles or installing silt fencing or construction delineation fence.
- Running errands such as picking up tools or materials at local vendors.
- Fueling and daily greasing of equipment.
- Clearing brush or debris from jobsites using both hand tools and chain-saws or weed-eaters.
- Assist in establishing or checking grade and taking measurements.
- Carrying and distributing materials on jobsites such as lumber, pipe, steel, sandbags or other miscellaneous materials or tools.
- Carpentry, Metal Fabrication, and Plumbing
- Assist in the repair or alteration of buildings, sheds, concrete forms and other structures from plans, sketches or instructions; may construct new facilities from blueprints and specifications.
- Repair floors, walls, ceilings, windows, doors, stairs and roofs.
- Assist in the fabrication of metal components.
- May cut pipe and plate, use grinding wheels and other fabrication shop equipment.
- Assist in cutting or demolishing various steel structures using oxy-acetylene torch rig or gas-powered hot-saw.
- Assist in the installation, maintenance and repair of pipes, valves and gates.
- Perform minor inspections of water mains, fixtures and valves to determine need for maintenance and repair.
- Assist in repair of commercial plumbing components, water lines and incubation plumbing or formalin distribution systems.
Requirements
- Ability to use and care for hand and power tools with reasonable degree of skill, work safely, perform work from oral and written instructions without direct supervision and perform heavy manual tasks.
- Ability to read and interpret, sketches and verbal instruction and order parts, materials and equipment.
- Knowledge of rules of safe operation of equipment; state motor vehicle laws; materials used in servicing and maintaining vehicles, construction and water pumping equipment; rules governing operation of state vehicles; methods, tools, and materials used in servicing and maintaining equipment.
- Ability to use a computer and perform basic navigation of Word, Excel and Microsoft Outlook.
