Responsibilities
- Serve as shift charge for a team of eight LPNs, ensuring quality care, proper medication/treatment procedures, and adherence to physician’s orders.
- Monitor client health and safety, maintain medical equipment, and oversee continuity of care through effective communication.
- Orient and train new staff, provide ongoing training for current staff, and participate in evaluations and performance feedback.
- Transcribe and carry out physician’s orders for medications and treatments, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and compliance with procedures.
- Assess and report changes in client status, communicate with families/guardians as needed, and update oncoming staff.
- Maintain accurate and timely documentation, including charts, care plans, event reports, and progress notes.
- Assist RNs and physicians with exams, respond to emergencies, and order/maintain nursing supplies and equipment.
- Oversee care provided by direct care staff, offering direction, training, and support to ensure client safety and well-being.
Requirements
- Knowledge of medication administration procedures and the ability to administer medications as prescribed.
- Ability to work effectively with clients who may exhibit challenging behaviors, including those with dual diagnoses of developmental disabilities and mental illness.
- Skill in exercising sound judgment during crisis situations, using approved intervention methods to support clients.
- Ability to comprehend and communicate effectively regarding all aspects of client care.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills to interact effectively with management, peers, clients, and the public.
