Natural Heritage Program Botanist, Natural Resources Scientist 3 (NRSci3)

Responsibilities

  • Identify, plan, and implement numerous rare plant monitoring and research projects
  • Manage scientific programs addressing rare plant conservation efforts
  • Conduct field inventory, monitoring, and research
  • Compile data from secondary sources
  • Establish conservation priorities
  • Coordinate statewide efforts with national and international projects
  • Analyze existing and new information on native plant species
  • Represent the DNR and the Natural Heritage Program in conservation planning efforts
  • Recommend sites for conservation action
  • Give presentations on conservation of rare plant species
  • Train/educate personnel in Natural Heritage methodology

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree with major study in botany, plant ecology or field of study dealing with the ecology or biology of native plant species
  • Four years of professional experience in botany, plant ecology or field of study dealing with the ecology or biology of native plant species
