Requirements
- Loss Ratio: Maintain it at or below agreed upon levels.
- Portfolio Analysis: Control and segment our business into Product P&Ls. Business retention also need to be monitored.
- Auditing: For compliance, correctness, etc., use of underwriting authorities delegated locally, rating, wordings, file documentation, renewal underwriting, product development process, peer reviews, etc. Audits must be performed every 18-24 months or sooner and written reports sent to UW Regional Office for final review.
- Product Development: Review and approve work done by others or perform work yourself. All new products or major product changes must be approved by Regional Underwriting Manager, Regional Actuarial and Regional Legal as required. The Product Development process must be followed as appropriate.
- Case Underwriting: Review/approve quotes on large and/or unusual market opportunities.
- Group Business.
- Business Travel.
- VEB.
- Specialty Markets.
- Training: Ensures that anyone with underwriting authority is properly trained, at least to the level of their authority and that trainee’s progress toward obtaining underwriting authority.
- General: Assist the A&H Manager as directed in general SBUs issues, important client relationships and key production issues.
- Third Party Administrators (TPA): Ensure that appropriate evaluation has be done regarding the TPA. UW Managers do not have authority to contract TPA so all cases must be prepared and sent to the UW Regional Office for approval/ signed-off. Regional Legal must approve the TPA agreement and must be signed prior to the TPA beginning any work. New Jersey signs off must be obtained as necessary.
- Inter-departmental Liaison: Coordinate with Operations & Systems, Legal, Claims, and Controller/Financial Departments to make sure all are aware of underwriting and related business activities that require their support and service.
- Performance Appraisals: Periodically provides comments on the technical ability and performance of subordinates measured against established criteria.
