About the role
These are non-permanent, on-call positions. This recruitment will be used to fill multiple positions. Schedule: On-call, days and times vary to include evenings, weekends, and some holidays. You will mostly work indoors, some outdoor work, uses cleaning equipment and chemicals. Stand, sit, walk and climb stairs, often for long periods of time. Lift, move, and carry up to 20 lbs. on occasion. What you will be doing includes: The mission of the Washington State Historical Society (WSHS) is to partner with our communities to explore how history connects us all. This position resides within the Audience Engagement department, which provides historical exhibition and program experiences for the public. You will help visitors to better understand Society exhibitions by providing educational information and answering questions within the exhibition gallery space. Additionally, you will protect historical artifacts and artworks by ensuring that visitors do not touch or handle artifacts or casework inappropriately and conduct visitor observation for exhibition evaluation.
Responsibilities
- Help greet and welcome visitors to the Washington State History Museum, within the permanent and/or temporary exhibition galleries
- Assist with managing traffic flow of guests within the museum’s program spaces/galleries
- Occasionally observe and record visitor behavior patterns within the gallery space for internal exhibition evaluation
- Answer basic visitor questions about the content of the exhibition galleries utilizing provided materials
- Supervise visitors within the galleries to ensure guests do not damage exhibition casework, panels, artifacts or artwork
- Inform visitors of gallery rules
- Notify security when necessary
- Engage guests in hands-on activities within the galleries, as assigned, with training from exhibits or education staff
- Conduct tracking and timing evaluation within exhibition spaces, as needed
- Handle light cleaning duties of exhibition cases, touchscreens, and interactive elements using appropriate supplies
Requirements
- High school graduate or GED
- One year of experience working with the public in a customer service role
- Lift, move, and carry up to 20 lbs
