DSHS SCC Custodian 4

We are seeking an experienced Custodian 4 to join our team. You will supervise a crew of resident workers and provide training in general custodial duties and heavy equipment operation for maintaining floors, carpets, and upholstery at the Special Commitment Center in Steilacoom, WA.

• Supervises, directs, instructs and assists employees and resident workers in cleaning and housekeeping duties in buildings, rooms and offices within the facility
• Instructs employees and resident workers in approved cleaning practices and methods
• Oversee the training and supervision of staff and resident workers performing housekeeping tasks
• Schedules and assigns work to employees and resident workers
• Escorts residents to and from work, inspects details of work and reports on areas that have been cleaned
• Evaluates the performance of staff and resident crew members using established standards and counsels them on performance
• Performs and/or recommends corrective or disciplinary action when necessary
• Interviews personnel being considered for employment and employees and makes recommendations to supervisor
• Coordinates time schedule and workload for staff and resident work crew
• Orders custodial supplies and equipment
• Distributes supplies to work crews as needed

• Ability to lift to 25lbs on a regular basis, as well as 45lbs occasionally
• Communicate effectively with team members and staff
• Basic computer experience including email and internet
• Use professional judgment to carry out all assigned responsibilities
• Knowledge of machinery and cleaning chemicals
• Be able to work independently and as a member of a team
• Must have the ability to stand and move around for long periods of time to accomplish duties

• Additional $10 per day premium pay
• Free O.R.C.A. card for transportation use
• Ferry transportation provided to McNeil Island employees
• Opportunities performed on-site at least three days a week may be eligible for an additional 5% premium pay
