
Behavioral Care Associate Full Time Nights

About the role
The Behavioral Care Associate role involves providing direct patient care in a night shift setting at AdventHealth Shawnee Mission. Responsibilities include managing the therapeutic milieu, performing observation rounds, detecting behavior patterns, utilizing communication skills, implementing patient-centered and trauma-informed care, assisting with personal hygiene, taking vital signs, de-escalating patients, and collaborating with the treatment team. Qualifications require a High School degree or equivalent, with preferred experience and training in behavioral care.
Responsibilities
- Responsible for milieu management functions to ensure patient safety
- Provides direct patient care according to the multidisciplinary treatment plan
- Collaborates with the Treatment Team and Registered Nurse
- Performs Observation Rounds and documents findings in real time
- Observes patients to detect behavior patterns and reports concerns
- Utilizes positive communication skills for therapeutic interventions
- Implements patient-centered care and trauma-informed care
- Maintains professional boundaries in the associate-patient relationship
- Assists patients with personal hygiene and activities of daily living
- Takes and records measures of general physical condition
- Performs blood glucose testing as ordered
- Orients patients and families to the unit
- Identifies early signs of escalation and de-escalates patients
- Intervenes to restrain patients when necessary under supervision
- Monitors and cares for patients in restraints according to policy
- Assists with Skin Safety Checks
- Performs Environmental rounds
- Maintains a safe and therapeutic milieu
- Reports and addresses unsafe environmental conditions
- Enforces unit rules and regulations
- Participates in treatment team meetings and provides input on treatment plans
- Documents findings in the electronic medical record
- Participates in committees and teams as needed
- Monitors and interacts with patients to optimize outcomes
Requirements
- High School degree or equivalent required
- 2 to 5 years of position-related experience preferred
- Certified Nurse Assistant training or experience preferred
