About the role
Environmental Specialist 3 Camp Murray, WA This recruitment is open until filled with application screening beginning August 28, 2025. Application screening will be ongoing until the position is filled.
Responsibilities
- Support of the Environmental Branch Assessment Program
- Support the Hazardous Waste Program under the direction of the Hazardous Waste Program Manager
- Conducts and assists in performing Environmental compliance investigations and site inspections
- Support in the hiring of well-qualified and reputable contractors
- Support of the Sustainment & Pollution Prevention Program
- Assure WMD meets statutory and regulatory requirements related to pollution prevention
- Assist in the data collection and subsequent record generation and management that are required to meet agency obligations to support efforts to reduce or prevent pollution
- Support of the Storage Tank Management Program
- Support to the environmental oversight of CFMO assigned aboveground, underground, and mobile storage tanks
- Collaborate with the Spill Prevention, Control, and Countermeasure (SPCC) Program Manager
- Support of the Spill Response & Compliance Related Cleanup Program
- Identify spill response and compliance related cleanup and equipment needs
- Keep informed of current and proposed regulations
- Support in developing a comprehensive spill prevention program
- Help coordinate emergency spill and other compliance related risk assessment, investigation, and cleanup
- Support the planning, execution, tracking and reporting to the Hazard Waste Program
- Respond to and investigate complex or highly technical complaints, violations, and inquiries
- Coordinate hazardous waste site (i.e. contaminated site, toxic cleanup site, cleanup site) risk assessment, investigation, and assist cleanup program management
- Review compliance related permit applications
Requirements
- One year of experience as an Environmental Specialist 2
- OR A Bachelor's degree involving a major study in anthropology/archeology, physical science or one of the natural sciences, environmental planning, or allied field
- AND Two years of professional level experience in cultural resource management, environmental analysis or control, or environmental planning
- OR A Ph.D. in environmental, physical, or one of the natural sciences, or environmental planning
