About the role

L&I's Division of Occupational Safety and Health (DOSH) administers the Washington Industrial Safety and Health Act (WISHA) law

Responsibilities

  • Independently conduct thorough investigations to determine root cause and other contributing factors
  • Conduct highly complex industrial hygiene investigations of workplaces
  • Enter physical worksites unannounced to conduct compliance investigations
  • Investigate complaints and referrals to determine if the alleged hazards exist and employees are exposed to them
  • Determine employer compliance or non-compliance with WISHA Safety and Health Standards
  • Write reports documenting employee exposure along with proposed citations and monetary penalties
  • Ensure abatement of hazards identified during inspection
  • Work with the Attorney General’s office and local prosecutors on highly complex and difficult cases
  • Testify on behalf of the Department as primary witness for all inspections conducted
  • Perform evidence handling of highly complex cases

Requirements

  • A valid and unrestricted driver license
  • Five years of professional industrial hygiene practice after graduation
  • Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH)
  • Five years of full-time professional industrial hygiene experience as an employer's safety director or manager
  • Seven years of full-time journey level industrial hygiene or equivalent experience in one or more of the following industries: Government, military, public health, or related safety and health field
  • Bachelor’s degree in industrial hygiene or similar field AND five years of professional industrial hygiene or equivalent experience

Benefits

  • 10% bonus for each hour of personal protective equipment use
  • 5% increase in pay for bilingual employees
  • Basic salary plus 10% for each hour of personal protective equipment use
  • Basic salary plus 5% increase in pay for bilingual employees
