About the role

A Clinical Pharmacist is needed for a 3-month contract assignment in Birmingham, AL, to provide leave of absence coverage. This role requires multi-state licensure with current, unrestricted pharmacy licenses in Alabama and Tennessee. The position supports specialty pharmacy operations focused on home infusion therapies and specialty medications, ensuring optimal patient care and safety in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities

  • Review, verify, and interpret prescriptions to ensure accuracy and compliance with regulations.
  • Counsel patients on specialty medication use and safety.
  • Monitor drug therapies and provide clinical interventions as needed to optimize patient outcomes.
  • Oversee pharmacy technician activities and collaborate with clinical and administrative teams to support patient care.
  • Ensure compliance with all legal, regulatory, and quality standards, including HIPAA, FDA, DEA, and pharmacy board regulations.
  • Utilize CareTend (CPR+ upgrade) pharmacy system for prescription management and documentation.
  • Participate in training pharmacy interns and support performance improvement initiatives.
  • Manage documentation for pharmacy operations and maintain accurate records of medication dispensing and patient profiles.

Requirements

  • Graduate of an ACPE-accredited School of Pharmacy with a BS or Doctorate of Pharmacy.
  • Current, unrestricted AL and TN pharmacist licenses. Multi-state licensure is mandatory.
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in specialty infusion, home infusion, retail, or hospital pharmacy preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of specialty therapies and pharmacy operations.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
  • Effective communication and organizational skills with the ability to lead and train staff.
  • Experience with CareTend pharmacy software is preferred.
  • Certification in Good Clinical Practices and knowledge of payer contracts for specialty therapies is a plus.
