About the role
The Respiratory Therapist I (entry level practitioner) performs all necessary routine respiratory care procedures associated with acute or critically ill neonatal, pediatric, or adult patient populations and is able to work independently and as a member of a multidisciplinary team.
Responsibilities
- Initiates, maintains, transports, and monitors mechanical ventilators to include basic conventional modes of ventilation per policy and procedure.
- Utilizes patient assessment skills, protocols, chart review, and confers with multidisciplinary team to determine efficacy of therapy in a cost and time efficient manner making appropriate recommendations and changes per department protocol.
- Performs airway maintenance including: proper use of manual resuscitators, oral and nasal pharyngeal airway insertion, and airway suctioning.
- Performs respiratory and oxygen delivery therapies and makes recommendations to the most efficient delivery method per protocol.
- Obtains, analyzes and reports findings of arterial blood gases and co-oximetry; performs quality controls as needed.
- Responds to all Code Blue emergencies immediately providing CPR according to the American Heart Association and performs other duties as directed.
- Interprets evaluations and test results to determine appropriate treatment plans in consultation with interdisciplinary healthcare team.
- Practices standard precautions and enforces safety regulations according to hospital policies.
- Documents and charges for procedures accurately and completely.
- Demonstrates collaboration and teamwork in assisting with patient flow.
Requirements
- High School Grad or Equiv Required
- Technical/Vocational School Required
- One or more years Work Experience Preferred
- ABG Puncture and Analysis
- Medicated Aerosol Therapies and applications, Bronchial Hygiene Therapies, Lung Expansion Therapies
- Basic Spirometry
- Oscillatory Chest Physiotherapy Applications
- CPR and basic Airway Management and Suctioning
- Non-Invasive Bilevel Application & Management
- Respiratory Monitoring Pulse oximetry Applications
- Application Non-Invasive Oxygen Therapies & devices
- Non-Invasive End Tidal Co2 Capnography Application & Monitoring
- Adult Basic Conventional Ventilator Management & Applications
- Routine Oxygen Delivery, Devices, and Oximetry
- Utilize and adapt to State of the Art Technology, Computer Systems and Applications
- Effective Oral and Written Communication
- Basic pediatric and/or neonatal respiratory care skills
- Respiratory Therapist (RRT) Required
- Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) Required
