About the role
A Special Education teaching opportunity is available for a long-term substitute at a middle school serving grades 6 through 8. This contract position provides instruction in math, reading, writing, life skills, and social skills, supporting students with diverse learning needs, including those on the autism spectrum. The role includes planning time and participation in PPT meetings as well as writing Individualized Education Programs (IEPs).
Responsibilities
- Deliver instruction tailored to middle school students with special needs in core academic subjects and life skills
- Develop and implement IEPs in collaboration with educational teams
- Attend and contribute to Planning and Placement Team (PPT) meetings
- Monitor student progress and adjust teaching methods accordingly
Requirements
- Valid Connecticut Special Education license for grades 6-8
- Experience working with middle school students diagnosed with autism
- Strong skills in teaching math, reading, writing, life skills, and social skills
