About the role
An opportunity is available for a Special Education Teacher specializing in 11th grade English Language Arts for the 2025-2026 school year within a high school setting in Washington, DC. This contract position offers the chance to impact the lives of students with learning disabilities through co-teaching and self-contained classroom settings.
Responsibilities
- Deliver instruction primarily in an 80/20 co-teaching/self-contained model.
- Lead four co-teaching periods, each serving approximately 20 students with Learning Disabilities (LD).
- Manage one self-contained classroom with dedicated aides for a group of 10 students.
- Collaborate with staff to create supportive learning environments tailored to individual student needs.
- Utilize specialized teaching strategies to facilitate academic growth and social development.
- Follow a consistent schedule of 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., totaling 40 hours per week.
- Engage actively with students, parents, and colleagues to promote student success.
Requirements
- Valid Special Education teaching certification
- Experience with high school-aged students, particularly in 11th grade ELA instruction.
- Demonstrated ability to employ both co-teaching and self-contained instructional methods.
- Strong understanding of working with students diagnosed with learning disabilities.
- Excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
