Required to work holidays, weekends, and hurricanes (disasters) Location: 601 E ROLLINS ST, Orlando, 32803 The community you'll be caring for: AdventHealth Orlando Located on a lush tropical campus, our flagship hospital, 1,368-bed AdventHealth Orlando Serves as the major tertiary facility for much of the Southeast, the Caribbean and South America AdventHealth Orlando houses one of the largest Emergency Departments and largest cardiac catheterization labs in the country We are already one of the busiest hospitals in the nation, providing service excellence to more than 32,000 inpatients and 125,000 outpatients each year The role you'll contribute: The Mission Control RN Tier 1 is a professional registered nurse functioning withing Mission Control in one of three primary roles. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: plan, prioritize, organize, direct and control all admissions and transfers between hospitals, departments and/or nursing units for AdventHealth. . The Mission Control RN is a highly trained professional with independent decision-making responsibilities, that must be applied based on telephone or electronic communication only. Utilizes complex acuity algorithms for time-sensitive medical events. Collaborates with physicians and departments within the Advent Health system as well as other facilities across the southeastern U.S. and internationally. Highly effective in critical clinical fact gathering and analysis, to identify appropriate levels of care, timely acceptance and specialty care needed for transport. Coordinates as an air traffic control for emergent and nonemergent transfers from all referring facilities. Acts as a liaison between referring hospitals, physicians, offices, and nursing department on issues pertaining to the transfer and placement of all patients. Proactively initiates steps, including utilization of the hospital and physician chain of command, to prevent EMTALA and Florida Access of Care violations. Adheres to the Advent Health Corporate Compliance Plan and to the rules and regulations of all applicable local, state and federal agencies and accrediting bodies. Actively participates in outstanding customer service, phone etiquette and accepts responsibility in maintaining relationships that are equally respectful to all. The value you'll bring to the team: PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND JOB RESPONSIBILITIES: Transfer Center Uses complex acuity algorithms for time-sensitive medical events, triaging, processing transfer requests, identifies the appropriate receiving campus, conferences physicians for specialist acceptance and patient hand-off. Identifies the appropriate level of care for placement and safe patient transport. Parallel processes and communications within Mission Control including: Patient Placement, Children's Transfer Center and Air and Ground dispatch teams. Facilitates nursing hand-off between the sending and receiving units. Utilizes knowledge and understanding of acuity of disease processes to triage appropriately and communicates clinical updates to physicians. Uses knowledge in emergency critical care of pediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatric patients. Accurately documents details of demographics and transfer process, real-time, in software systems to ensure department STATS and AdventHealth regulatory compliance are met. Improves patient safety and outcomes through process improvement by ongoing department QA of documentation and recordings. Maintains processes to avoid EMTALA or Florida Access violations by following complex service line specific templates and referencing the State website for registered services provided by a facility. Utilizes all electronic foundational resources and tools to efficiently maintain throughput across AdventHealth and sending facilities. Continuously re-evaluates patient transfer requests and collaborates with campus operational leadership to ensure timely transfer. Escalates barriers through established chain of command. Multi-tasks using critical care thinking skills in a fast-paced, high-stress work environment. Assists in training/mentoring new employees, attends staff meetings, and maintains current knowledge of operational processes. Reviews electronic communications to keep abreast of process and departmental changes. Supports Mission Control Departmental functions and needs. Behavioral Health Patient Placement Remains abreast of all policies and standard operating procedures, facilitates patient throughput for hospitals in Advent Health's 11-campus system with patients in the Emergency department and on medical floors. Acts as esource to hospital staff, patient families, and local psychiatric facilities. Maintains and follows placement of psychiatric patients presenting in the Emergency Department according to EMTALA. Updates and maintains Waitlist for patients awaiting placement in a Baker Act receiving facility, tracks community daily census for placement opportunities. Ensures legal documentation is accurate and appropriate prior to transfer of patients. Acts as a liaison between patients, receiving facilities, physicians and team members. Maintains continuity and accuracy in documentation, and timely follow up with units, departments, Center for Behavioral Health (CBH) and community leadership regarding placement barriers. Participates in daily conference calls and prepares reports as required to communicate barriers regarding patient placement. Escalates concerns and delays to appropriate leadership in a timely manner. Coordinates placement and transportation to facilities. Processes requests for admission from outside psychiatric facilities into Advent Health for medical treatment. Coordinates admission with the Center for Behavioral Health leadership team. Assists in training new Intake Coordinators, attends weekly staff meetings, and maintains current knowledge of operational processes. Verifies insurance benefits on all patients prior to admission to CBH and engages Emergency department and medical floor nursing team, Patient Access and Patient Financial Services in the verification process. Obtains pre-authorization and provides information to the Utilization Review Specialist, Utilization Review Case Manager and the Clinical Support Specialist to ensure clear communication, collaboration, accuracy and timely completion for operational and financial success of the Center for Behavioral Health. Obtains the appropriate legal status documentation from CBH units/departments and community mental health providers for all patients on the Placement Waitlist. Coordinates with the Court Liaison to ensure all legal procedures follow law. Qualifications The expertise and experiences you'll need to succeed: Current valid State of Florida or multi state license as a Registered Nurse. Graduate of school of Nursing EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE PREFERRED: 2 years minimum relevant acute care experience Proficient verbal and written communication skills. Responsibilities

Requirements
