About the role
A full-time opportunity is available for a skilled Sign Language Interpreter to support a 5th-grade student with cochlear implants in a K-12 school setting.
Responsibilities
- Deliver accurate and clear ASL interpretation for a 5th-grade student in all classroom and related activities
- Collaborate with teachers, staff, and specialists to facilitate effective communication and learning
- Maintain confidentiality and professionalism in all interactions
- Adapt interpretation techniques to meet the student's individual communication needs
Requirements
- Active Illinois Educational Interpreter Service (EIS) license, or an Educational Interpreter Performance Assessment (EIPA) score of 3.5 or higher
- Proven experience with American Sign Language (ASL) interpretation, especially in educational settings
- Strong understanding of Deaf culture and cochlear implant technology to support the student effectively
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to work closely with students, educators, and families
