Responsibilities
- Provide professional nursing services including assessment and evaluation of medical problems.
- Perform initial medical screening at youth intake and complete patient discharge summaries at the time of release.
- Assist physicians, psychiatrists, and other professional medical providers in the examination, diagnostic testing, treatment, and record-keeping of youth.
- Implement and document all physician orders.
- Provide medical case management for youth with chronic or acute conditions.
- Communicate with and instruct non-medical agency staff on treatment and care of youth.
- Recognize and report risk indicators by youth (e.g. self-harm threats, medication refusal, or misuse.).
- Educate and counsel residents regarding medical and mental health care.
- Implement infection control program/protocol requirements identified in statutes, rules, and JRA policies.
- Confer with a physician for direction relating to testing and treatment of infectious diseases.
- Provide first aid and first response emergency medical services for youth, institution employees, and visitors.
- Prepare and administer medication.
- Document provided health care and patient responses to treatment in medical files and database; ensure youth medical files are kept up to date.
Requirements
- Professionals who hold a valid Washington State license to practice as a registered professional nurse.
- Graduation from an accredited school of professional nursing AND one year of professional nursing experience.
- Equivalent education or experience totaling three (3) years.
