Responsibilities

  • Provide professional nursing services including assessment and evaluation of medical problems.
  • Perform initial medical screening at youth intake and complete patient discharge summaries at the time of release.
  • Assist physicians, psychiatrists, and other professional medical providers in the examination, diagnostic testing, treatment, and record-keeping of youth.
  • Implement and document all physician orders.
  • Provide medical case management for youth with chronic or acute conditions.
  • Communicate with and instruct non-medical agency staff on treatment and care of youth.
  • Recognize and report risk indicators by youth (e.g. self-harm threats, medication refusal, or misuse.).
  • Educate and counsel residents regarding medical and mental health care.
  • Implement infection control program/protocol requirements identified in statutes, rules, and JRA policies.
  • Confer with a physician for direction relating to testing and treatment of infectious diseases.
  • Provide first aid and first response emergency medical services for youth, institution employees, and visitors.
  • Prepare and administer medication.
  • Document provided health care and patient responses to treatment in medical files and database; ensure youth medical files are kept up to date.

Requirements

  • Professionals who hold a valid Washington State license to practice as a registered professional nurse.
  • Graduation from an accredited school of professional nursing AND one year of professional nursing experience.
  • Equivalent education or experience totaling three (3) years.
