Responsibilities
Oversee medical professional liability claims and litigation for the Ascension Health Alliance Professional Liability and General Liability Self-Insurance Trust. Responsible for case strategy, investigation and oversight of case action plan in collaboration with insured and defense counsel.
Investigate and process general and professional liability claims from first notice of loss through resolution including coverage, liability, damage evaluations, caseload management and resolution.
Establish reserves based on protocols and authority procedures.
Oversee litigation assigned to external counsel pursuant to established guidelines. Manage panel counsel retained for litigated claims.
Complete National Claims Committee reports for large loss matters.
Collaborate with Risk Management team regarding lessons learned and mitigation efforts.
Attend depositions, meetings with insureds, mediations, and trials. Negotiate settlements directly with patients, plaintiff attorneys and/or direct defense counsel within approved authority.

Requirements
Education: High School diploma equivalency with 2 years of cumulative experience OR Associate's degree/Bachelor's degree with 1 year of experience OR 5 years of applicable cumulative job specific experience required.
2 years of leadership or management experience preferred.
