About the role
The Director of Coding Operations is responsible for providing supervision, training, and coordination of the coding and abstracting functions in the Coding Department. This position validates direct reports and manages teams in accordance with policy and productivity standards. Additionally, this role is responsible for outreach to service line leadership within assigned medical groups. In addition, this position researches complex coding questions submitted by the team. Ensures the accuracy and efficiency of coding operations to support organizational goals.

Supervises onsite and remote coding staff, providing guidance and support to maintain high performance standards. Conducts annual employee evaluations to assess performance and identify areas for improvement. Reviews official coding resources to stay updated on coding changes and communicates these changes to the coding staff. Prepares and distributes training materials to facilitate understanding and compliance with coding standards. Conducts research to ensure educational material contains current, relevant, reliable, and factual detail. Participates in hiring and training an effective coding operations team to support organizational goals. Monitors coding teamwork volumes and projections to forecast staffing needs and optimize resource allocation. Uses EMR reporting to eliminate redundant work and enhance automation processes. Provides leadership with written status reports, issues, and overall project status to ensure transparency and accountability. Leads and participates in special projects to improve coding operations and support organizational initiatives. Collaborates with service line leadership within assigned medical groups to address complex coding questions and ensure accurate coding practices. Other duties as assigned.
The expertise and experiences you'll need to succeed: High School Grad or Equiv 10 years is in lieu of the degree and would be in addition to the other experience 5 years of experience as a manager with direct reports. 5 years of outpatient coding experience. Substantial knowledge of outpatient workflows, outpatient and inpatient coding process. Able to prepare training manuals, training schedules/timelines and conduct web-based training. Preferred Qualifications: Bachelors degree in related field Certified Approved Instructor (CPC-I) Certified Professional Coder (CPC) Certified Coding Specialist Physician-based (CCS-P)
