About the role

Microsoft has an exciting opportunity for an experienced Service Engineer II to join the Azure Silver and Sovereign Team as part of the Cloud Transfer Service (CTS) team.

Responsibilities

  • Responds to incidents during regular on-call rotations by identifying the level of impact, troubleshooting issues, and deploying appropriate fixes to resolve root cause(s).
  • Demonstrates understanding of service and/or system design, interactions between technology layers and components, functions of physical infrastructure (networking and servers) and cloud-based infrastructure, and dependencies at scale.
  • Monitors and acts on telemetry data and performs analyses to identify patterns that reveal errors and unexpected problems that are affecting the system's availability, reliability, performance, and/or efficiency, with minimal guidance.
  • Implements reliable, scalable, and high-performance solutions including software development, scripting, networking, automation, and hybrid deployments across teams through owning implementation and maintaining quality with minimal guidance.
  • Learns and adheres to prescriptive guidance for security, privacy, and compliance standards in alignment with direction from the business and technical experts.
  • Stays current in knowledge and expertise as technology landscape evolves specifically as that technology relates to Cloud networking, physical networking, automation, and Linux (Debian and Red Hat based distributions).
  • Contributes to the adoption of new solutions.
  • Shares insights and best practices that can be applied to improve development and operations of the system, platform, or product components and features by participating in design reviews, incident drills and debriefs, and regular meetings, as well as interactions with more experienced Service Engineers and members of product engineering teams.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Data Science, Cybersecurity, or related field AND 2+ years technical experience in software engineering, network engineering, service engineering, systems engineering, or industrial controls OR equivalent experience.
  • Security Clearance Requirements: Candidates must be able to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role.
  • Citizenship & Citizenship Verification: This position requires verification of U.S. citizenship due to citizenship-based legal restrictions.
  • Preferred/Additional Qualifications: 3+ years' experience implementing cloud-based network solutions or hybrid (on-site/cloud) solutions.
  • Experience configuring physical networking equipment such as Arista, Juniper, Cisco, and Palo Alto.
  • Experience with host-based virtualization technologies such as Linux Kernel-Based Virtual Machine (KVM) or Microsoft Hyper-V.
  • Proven experience in scripting languages such as Linux Bash, Windows PowerShell, and Python.
  • Experience with Linux operating system distributions, including Debian, Ubuntu, Red Hat, and Azure Linux.
  • Experience working with common automation technologies such as Ansible.
  • Experience developing and deploying enterprise-level PKI solutions including Certification Authorities (CAs), Registration Authorities (RAs), and certificate lifecycle management.
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate across organizational boundaries.
  • Self-motivated, collaborative, and a quick learner with a passion for solving complex problems.
