About the role
Provide direct instruction and support to students with visual impairments via virtual platforms. Adapt and modify curriculum materials into accessible formats, including large print, Braille, digital, and audio. Collaborate with classroom teachers, special education teams, and families to support access to learning. Conduct virtual functional vision assessments and learning media assessments as needed. Participate in IEP development, team meetings, and progress monitoring in compliance with Michigan Department of Education (MDE) and IDEA requirements. Recommend and train students and staff in the use of assistive technology, low vision tools, and accessible software. Support development of students’ compensatory skills, including organizatiorientation, on and mobility collaboration, and independent living skills (when appropriate). Maintain accurate documentation of services, assessments, and communications in accordance with school and state policies. Stay current on best practices, tools, and legal updates related to visual impairment education and remote instruction.
