About the role
The State Broadband Director is appointed by the Governor and reports directly to the Local Government Division, Assistant Director. The State Broadband Office works in collaboration with other local, state, and federal agencies to meet the goals of providing access to affordable broadband to all Washington State residents.
Responsibilities
- Oversee, approve, and control budget development and expenditures for the section
- Resolving contractual issues with clients/stakeholders
- Developing and implementing policies and procedures
- Developing and directing the Broadband strategic plan, initiatives, and program development
- Making recommendations to the Director of Commerce on final rulemaking and other actions as needed
- Guiding the section in the development of policies that govern the selection of projects and the distribution of funds within the programs
- Influencing and providing recommendations around the direction, strategic planning, budget and legislation development, quality improvement, customer service, technology application, staff training, related programs, and staff in the unit
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Public Administration, Business, or Information Technology (professional level experience may substitute year for year for the degree)
- 10 years of experience in any combination of the following: Broadband deployment, Community economic development, Community outreach, Experience facilitating community groups
- 4 years of supervisory experience in a professional setting
- Strategic leadership and planning skills
- Ability to work with a wide range of stakeholders
- Ability to implement executive and legislative policies and make internal policy decisions with large-scale implications
