About the role
Health Records Technician 2 (HRT2) for the Washington Corrections Center for Women (WCCW) located in Gig Harbor, Washington.
Responsibilities
- Manage all Public Disclosure requests involving medical records for active or recently released patients of WCCW
- Ensure disclosure of requests is appropriate and the release of information is on record
- Extracting requested information and ensuring accuracy of information to requested documentation
- Check the validity of the record request
- Correctly compute a charge for the requested records as appropriate
- Maintain the public disclosure log
- Ensure records are archived according to policy
- Schedule and coordinate management of medical records for all patients currently housed at WCCW
- Audit medical charts
- Maintain signature sheets
- Filing and re-filing medical charts
- Pulling charts for appointments
- Creating new charts
- Performing quality checks on incoming loose filing
- Preparing release of information for providers
- Combining previous volumes into one usable chart
- Supervise and evaluate medical records office staff
- Manage and direct operations and performance of medical records staff
- Review and complete position descriptions (PD's) as well as review/evaluate/complete performance and development plans annually
- Conduct monthly supervisory conferences with records staff
- Recommend hiring of staff, establish job performance standards, evaluate job performance and take corrective action if performance is not to expectation
- Assigns training as needed for health records, work schedules and duties
- Provides guidance and assistance to health records staff
- Provide information as the facility subject matter expert on management of WCCW health records
- Advise and counsel health service management and staff in health information and infomatics according to DOC policy
- Provide training to staff
- Disseminate information from headquarters records staff to WCCW
- Participate in facility Continuous Quality Improvement (CQIP) efforts and the application of LEAN principles to the WCCW health services operations
- Other duties as assigned
Requirements
- Certification by the American Health Information Management Association as a Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA)
- Two years of experience in a Health Information Management (medical records) office, office management, healthcare privacy office, compliance office or closely related area
- Valid driver license
