About the role
Responsible for coordinating and delivering patient-centered nursing care within the Maternal Child Health department. This position collaborates with other healthcare disciplines to execute the patient's plan-of-care, utilizing physical assessment skills and advanced diagnostic technology to assess nursing care needs, analyze data, and refine care plans. Additionally, this role monitors and assesses the patient's physical condition, emotional and social needs, ensuring high standards of patient care and satisfaction. In addition, this position provides technical nursing support in obstetrical clinical nursing activities, including OB triage, Labor and Delivery, Post-partum/Couplet Care, Antepartum, OB Operating Room, recovery, and level one nursery. Responsibilities for this role include ensuring skilled and comprehensive patient assessments and contributing to the overall effectiveness of the healthcare team.
The value you'll bring to the team: Assist with newborn care at deliveries, providing immediate care and support to newborns during and after delivery. * Maintain skills in neonatal resuscitation to respond effectively in emergencies. * Demonstrate assessment skills in high and low-risk obstetrical patients to identify potential risks and health issues. * Identify and report maternal and newborn problems to the physician promptly. * Assist with the transfer of newborns to other facilities when indicated, ensuring safe and efficient transfers. * Accurately identify and band newborns, mothers, and significant others to prevent mix-ups. * Document all care activities accurately, including band identification numbers in medical records. * Provide care during obstetrical surgical procedures, assisting in the Labor & Delivery Operating Suite. * Perform intraoperative and post-anesthesia care according to established standards. * Conduct steam sterilization processing for instruments and supplies, ensuring all sterilization parameters are met. * Provide emotional support for grieving parents, offering compassionate support and connecting them with appropriate support groups. * Educate and support families about newborn care, health conditions, and post-discharge care.
Qualifications The expertise and experiences you'll need to succeed: Bachelor's of Nursing Preferred One or more years of Labor and Delivery Nursing Work Experience Preferred Advanced Cardiac Life Support Cert (ACLS) Required Basic Life Support - CPR Cert (BLS) Required Neonatal Resuscitation Protocol (NRP) Required Illinois Registered Nurse (RN) License Required Registered Nurse (RN) Required Neonatal Med Certification (NEONATAL MED) Required Advanced Cardiac Life Support for Labor and Delivery (ACLS) Required
