About WSDOT

Responsibilities

  • Implement existing adaptive management plans.
  • Apply herbicides on restoration, mitigation and roadside sites.
  • Interpret technical work plans, maps and plans sheets for native plant installation, fence construction and maintenance, irrigation construction and maintenance, wildlife habitat structure construction, brush cutting, and erosion control device installation.
  • Ensure that all regulations are followed during all aquatic or non-aquatic pesticide applications.
  • Assist in developing projects including determining materials, equipment, and personnel needs for daily site work.
  • Operate, clean, maintain and store hand tools and small gas or electric power equipment.
  • Assist with the repair of tools and equipment; load and unload materials, supplies and equipment used in construction, maintenance and restoration work.
  • Drive heavy duty trucks transporting materials, supplies, and equipment; may also drive passenger cars, may need to transport materials and supplies with a trailer, often driving long distances.

Requirements

  • Plant Identification: Skills to accurately identify Washington native plants, nuisance and noxious weeds to help achieve performance standards and permit requirements.
  • Herbicide Application & Safety: Ability to apply aquatic and non-aquatic herbicides safely and in compliance with WSDA, DOE, and agency regulations; ability to maintain pesticide records and store and handle chemicals properly.
  • Restoration & Habitat Management: Skills to implement adaptive management plans on mitigation and restoration sites, maintain site activities spreadsheets, install native vegetation and erosion control devices.
  • Power Equipment Operation & Maintenance: Ability to operate and maintain hand tools, sprayers, and power equipment.
  • Teamwork & Communication: Skills to work effectively within a crew, supports supervisors, trains seasonal staff, collaborate with other regional restoration crews and professionally engage with the public.
