About the role
As the Assistant Director for Facility Professional Services, you will provide vision, leadership, and strategic direction for a division with statewide responsibility for managing and supporting public works projects for state agencies and community and technical colleges.
Responsibilities
- Lead delivery of a biennial capital program with 500+ projects valued at $825M+.
- Serve on the DES Leadership Team and represent the agency with public, private, and government stakeholders.
- Shape legislation, policies, and statewide standards for public facility planning, design, and construction.
- Advise the Governor’s Office, Legislature, OFM, and client agencies on budget and capital program issues.
- Provide expert guidance on fee schedules, budget instructions, and statewide capital program priorities.
- Resolve conflicts, claims, and disputes using advanced management and project delivery expertise.
- Manage fiscal resources from appropriations, interagency agreements, and federal funding.
- Advance workforce and social goals, including support for minority- and women-owned businesses.
- Foster a customer-focused, inclusive, and diverse organizational culture.
- Anticipate and address emerging issues to strengthen statewide facility management policies.
- Lead development of FPS strategic and business plans aligned with DES mission and goals.
- Build and maintain collaborative partnerships with elected officials, agencies, businesses, and communities.
Requirements
- 10 years of experience leading professional teams in a public works/contract environment
- OR a bachelor’s degree in Business, Engineering, Architecture, Construction Management, or related field or equivalent experience
- AND 6 years of experience leading professional teams in a public works/contract environment.
