Field Inspector (TE 2) - Washington State Ferries
Responsibilities
- Inspect and document public works construction for contract compliance.
- Maintain field notes, logs, photos, and project records.
- Review contracts, permits, and drawings to ensure compliance.
- Write daily inspection reports and communicate project issues.
- Coordinate with ferry operations to maintain service during projects.
- Test and sample construction materials; maintain certifications.
- Prepare cost estimates, update drawings, and finalize project records.
- Follow established construction and inspection procedures.

Requirements
- Engineering Application – Apply civil engineering and construction management principles to inspect marine structures and interpret drawings, specs, and contracts.
- Regulatory Compliance – Perform and document materials testing (concrete, asphalt, grout, aggregates) to ensure contract and permit compliance.
- Field Inspection & Reporting – Conduct site inspections, prepare daily reports, maintain field notes, and update as-built records.
- Problem Solving – Identify and resolve contractor, safety, and compliance issues.
- Communication & Coordination – Clearly communicate with contractors, operations staff, and agency stakeholders; build cooperative relationships.
- Technology Proficiency – Use inspection tools, testing equipment, and software (e.g., Microsoft Office, Unifier, Bluebeam).
- Workplace Culture – Contribute to a respectful, equitable, and collaborative work environment.
- Licenses & Certifications – Obtain/maintain driver’s license, TWIC, boater card, WSDOT General Inspector, and required materials testing certifications within 6 months.
