Grounds & Nursery Services Specialist 3, On-Call

Grounds & Nursery Services Specialist 3 for the Washington Soldiers Home performs gardening duties, maintenance of grounds, landscapes, nurseries, and/or greenhouses.

• Prepare soil for planting; trim and water plants, trees, flowers and shrubs.
• Seed, mow, irrigate, fertilize and maintain lawns.
• Use a variety of tools and equipment, such as rakes, pruning shears, hand edgers, loppers, shovels, wheelbarrows, and pesticide sprayers.
• Operate motorized and power equipment such as weed trimmers, chain saws, backpack blowers, rototillers, light tractors, front-end loaders, small trucks, lawn mowers, sweepers, etc.
• Perform a variety of ground maintenance tasks (weeding, edging, pruning, raking, clearing drains, removal of debris, etc.).
• Perform maintenance on cemetery/grave markers.
• Perform setup and teardown of graveside ceremonies.
• Attend training/classes as required.

• High school diploma or GED equivalent.
• Two (2) years of experience gardening or in grounds maintenance.
• Experience performing grounds and maintenance for a large-scale facility.
