Responsibilities
- Develop biological assessments and other documentation to accomplish consultation pursuant to the Endangered Species Act (ESA)
- Meet with federal, state, and local resource and planning agencies to assess impacts of WSDOT activities and to develop mitigation plans
- Coordinate with WSDOT project offices and external agencies to assess project impacts and to develop effective avoidance, minimization, and/or compensation plans for impacts to fish and wildlife species
- Independently plan and conduct field and office fisheries-related studies to identify and evaluate effects of transportation facility construction and operation on fish, habitat, and threatened/endangered species
- Prepare technical reports containing site inventory information, analysis of project effects on resources, recommendations for minimizing adverse effects, and mitigation proposals
- Review environmental documents, project plans, and contract provisions for compliance with environmental permits, documentation requirements, and agency procedures
- Supervise fish passage work completed by general contractors for accuracy and environmental compliance
- Attend professional workshops, training sessions, and meetings; review professional literature; and provide assistance and training to the department in subject matter expertise
