About the role

The Associate Data & Decision Scientist on the Capacity Scenarios and Forecasting Team within Network Planning plays a critical role in shaping Southwest Airlines' network strategy through advanced machine learning and data modeling.

Responsibilities

  • Demonstrate intermediate mastery of statistical and analytical techniques
  • Use technology skills to gather and understand large data sets
  • Identify trends and themes within data sets
  • Deliver analysis that leverages understanding of the business problem
  • Communicate recommendations and results to Department Leaders
  • Construct structured data visualizations and dashboards

Requirements

  • Knowledge of arithmetic, algebra, geometry, calculus, statistics, and their applications
  • Knowledge of principles and methods for moving people or goods by air, rail, sea, or road
  • Knowledge of business and management principles involved in strategic planning
  • Skilled in collecting, organizing, visualizing, and assimilating data
  • Ability to understand and apply information to contribute to the organization's strategic plan
