Principal Systems Engineer - Hardware
Responsibilities
- Lead in cross-boundary issue triage, debug, and resolution
- Architect cloud test scenarios and guide software engineers to automate test flows
- Develop guidelines for validation strategies, manufacturing, system bring-up, and system evaluation
- Enable platform and solution level discussions, influencing architecture of the product and delivering to the quality goals across reliability, safety, manufacturability, serviceability, and performance
- Learn, analyze, and work with new interfaces and subsystems, break down complex issues, and collaborate across cross-functional teams to resolve issues in a timely manner
- Be part of the concept design discussions, gather node/rack system level requirements, clarify interfaces, provide feedback into future design requirements to help develop robust and high-performance cloud hardware solutions
- Gather all the system engineering requirements for the infrastructure components by working with engineering groups and other stakeholders
- Develop test strategy, test-cases and execute platform validation plans of the systems (node/rack level)
- Work with ODMs, other system engineers, internal design teams and customers to develop validation execution plans for new technologies and MSFT IP features
- Use statistical analysis methods to identify highly complex issues that may affect a range of feature or product design changes
- Identify possible solutions to novel and complex problems
- Own the engineering interface between the customer and development teams across silicon, platform, ODM vendors, and the factory test/calibration team in the form of a test/user scenario development
- Collaborate in design reviews between dev teams and development suppliers
- Perform NUD module feature analysis against supplier’s capabilities and provide risk mitigation for identified gaps and schedule impact assessment
- Analyze and evaluate build data for each module engineering build, presenting summary to the development team and adjusting test spec limits based on build analysis
- Architect and optimize system and device level test scenarios and guide software engineers to automate test flows
- Guide junior Systems engineers on test case development, automation, test execution and debug
Requirements
- Master's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field AND 7+ years technical engineering experience
- OR Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field AND 8+ years technical engineering experience
- OR equivalent experience
- 8+ years of experience in hardware design, system design, and validation for servers, storage, and datacenter infrastructure—covering all phases of development and product release cycles
- 8+ years of development expertise across hardware and firmware system interfaces, with deep knowledge of server, datacenter, AI, storage, and embedded systems
