Virtual School Sign Language Interpreter

As a Remote Sign Language Interpreter, you will facilitate communication between Deaf or Hard of Hearing individuals and hearing individuals in a school-based setting via video remote interpreting (VRI).

• Provide real-time American Sign Language (ASL) interpretation via video conferencing platforms
• Interpret accurately and impartially between spoken English and ASL
• Adapt communication style to meet the needs of each client or setting
• Maintain confidentiality and adhere to professional and ethical standards
• Collaborate with clients and other professionals to ensure effective communication
• Manage scheduling, documentation, and session reports as needed
• Stay current with interpreting best practices and participate in professional development

• Fluency in American Sign Language and spoken English
• RID certification (NIC, CI/CT, or equivalent) or BEI certification
• Registered and/or licensed to provide interpreting services in the state of Michigan (or eligible)
• At least 2 years of interpreting experience (remote or on-site)
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills
• Access to a professional home setup including high-speed internet connection, neutral background, good lighting, and quality webcam/microphone
• Knowledge of Deaf culture and the diverse needs of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing community
