About the role
Compensation for this position ranges between $17-$22. This contract opportunity is for an ideal dedicated and detail-oriented pharmacy technician. If you thrive in retail and long-term care and have the required experience. This role supports our mission to provide high-quality, compassionate pharmacy care to individuals with behavioral health and complex health needs.
Responsibilities
- Accurately enter and update prescription and patient information into pharmacy systems.
- Process refill requests, insurance claims, and prior authorizations under pharmacist supervision.
- Prepare prescription labels and verify information for accuracy.
- Retrieve, count, pour, weigh, measure, and label medications for pharmacist verification.
- Prepare both non-sterile and sterile compounds (if certified and trained per CA regulations).
- Repackage medications for unit dose dispensing or inventory management.
- Greet and assist patients at the pharmacy counter or via phone.
- Collect patient information (e.g., insurance, allergies) and relay questions to the pharmacist.
- Inform patients of wait times, copays, or out-of-stock medications.
- Receive, unpack, and store medications and pharmacy supplies.
- Monitor stock levels, check expiration dates, and remove outdated items.
- Help manage controlled substances inventory per DEA and California Board of Pharmacy rules.
- Process third-party insurance claims and troubleshoot billing issues.
- Coordinate with insurance companies and prescribers for overrides or prior authorizations.
- Assist patients with discount programs or out-of-pocket cost concerns.
- Comply with all California Board of Pharmacy laws and regulations.
- Perform duties only under the direct supervision of a licensed pharmacist.
- Ensure proper documentation and privacy in accordance with HIPAA.
- If working in a hospital or compounding pharmacy, prepare sterile products in accordance with USP <797>/<800>.
- Participate in required training and competency assessments.
- Maintain sterile compounding logs and environmental monitoring records.
- Coordinate with pharmacists, interns, and other technicians to maintain smooth workflow.
- Help maintain cleanliness and organization in the pharmacy work area.
- Participate in pharmacy meetings, trainings, and process improvement initiatives.
Requirements
- Valid and active California State Pharmacy Technician License.
- Retail/Long Term Care experience.
- 1-3 years of pharmacy technician experience.
