About the role
The Library and Archive Paraprofessional 4 (LAPP 4) applies expert level knowledge in providing critical legal access services to the incarcerated population in accordance with Constitutional rights, as well as, legal DOC matters, and policy.
Responsibilities
- Provide delivery of law library services
- Process and maintain records of law library materials
- Ensure access to the law libraries is maintained
- Provide research resources and resolves research inquiries
- Monitor researchers to assure adherence to collections use and security procedures
- Guide researchers to other sources for records, publications, and information
- Respond to inquiries from incarcerated individuals, staff, and other DOC law libraries
- Provide resources for researching case law, etc.
- Remain knowledgeable about legal departmental, and institutional changes
- Provide access to legal photocopy services
- Provide services for e-filing to the Courts
- Ensure timely responses to requests from individuals housed in segregation unit
- Provide instruction and information to incarcerated individuals
- Process kites
- Inspect and process legal mail
- Maintain materials, including electronic files, in the law library collection
- Coordinate interlibrary loans with Washington State Law Library, state courts, and applicable state and local agencies
- Plan for equipment needs of units, oversee equipment upkeep, services, and repair
- Ensure maintenance of supply inventory
- Prepare statistical, operational, and administrative reports
- Design and implement data collection methods
- Utilize data visualization tools in the preparation of reports
- Maintain and publish the law library schedule
- Instruct law clerks, staff, and volunteers in law library operations and policies/procedures
- Hire, supervise, evaluate, and terminate incarcerated law clerks
- Track and submit clerk payroll
- Provide notary services for incarcerated population
- Present orientation regarding the law library and legal services to all newly arriving incarcerated individuals
Requirements
- High School Diploma or Equivalent
- Four (4) years of progressively responsible experience in office/clerical, secretarial, bookkeeping, accounting, or general administrative work
