About the role

The Division Chief is responsible for the overall management of the division and ensures delivery of legal services, a mix of litigation and client advice, to the Department of Labor and Industries (Department).

Responsibilities

  • Manage and coordinate the budget for legal services
  • Provide independent, sound legal advice on a wide variety of complex issues
  • Develop and carry out systemic approaches to legal services in response to changing client needs
  • Collaborate and foster teamwork
  • Mentor and supervise other employees
  • Lead counsel to the Director of the Department
  • Coordinate legal issues and litigation involving the Department
  • Work with other divisions on joint regulatory efforts
  • Provide exceptional legal services to the state, its people, and resources

Requirements

  • Graduated from a law school accredited by the ABA or completed the WSBA's Rule 6 Law Clerk Program
  • Licensed to practice law in Washington state
  • Significant management and legal experience
  • Civil Litigation experience
  • Providing independent, sound legal advice
  • Developing and carrying out systemic approaches to legal services
  • Outstanding interpersonal skills
  • Leadership skills and competence in mentoring and supervising other employees
