About the role
The Division Chief is responsible for the overall management of the division and ensures delivery of legal services, a mix of litigation and client advice, to the Department of Labor and Industries (Department).
Responsibilities
- Manage and coordinate the budget for legal services
- Provide independent, sound legal advice on a wide variety of complex issues
- Develop and carry out systemic approaches to legal services in response to changing client needs
- Collaborate and foster teamwork
- Mentor and supervise other employees
- Lead counsel to the Director of the Department
- Coordinate legal issues and litigation involving the Department
- Work with other divisions on joint regulatory efforts
- Provide exceptional legal services to the state, its people, and resources
Requirements
- Graduated from a law school accredited by the ABA or completed the WSBA's Rule 6 Law Clerk Program
- Licensed to practice law in Washington state
- Significant management and legal experience
- Civil Litigation experience
- Providing independent, sound legal advice
- Developing and carrying out systemic approaches to legal services
- Outstanding interpersonal skills
- Leadership skills and competence in mentoring and supervising other employees
