About the role
A full-time Special Education teaching opportunity is available at an elementary school in Sumter, SC, for the 2025-2026 academic year.
Responsibilities
- Provide specialized instruction for developmentally delayed and mildly mentally disabled students (grades 3rd-5th).
- Manage and de-escalate behavior in a classroom setting to maintain a positive learning environment.
- Collaborate with general education K-5 teachers during Professional Learning Communities (PLCs) twice weekly.
- Develop and implement Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) aligned with educational plans.
- Participate in monthly meetings with special education program directors.
- Work closely with a paraprofessional assigned to the classroom.
- Engage with school leadership and special education teams to support student progress.
Requirements
- Active South Carolina Teaching Certification with multi-category (multi-cat) endorsement.
- Experience working with students who have developmental delays and mild intellectual disabilities.
- Proven ability to effectively manage behavioral challenges in the classroom.
- Strong collaboration and communication skills to work within interdisciplinary teams.
- Commitment to supporting the academic and social growth of elementary-aged students.
