About the role

The Department of Corrections is seeking highly motivated and qualified individuals for the position of Correctional Sergeant - Corrections & Custody Officer 3 (CO3) at the Olympic Corrections Center (OCC) in Forks, Washington.

Responsibilities

  • Perform custody work including controlling, directing, and monitoring the activities and movement of adult incarcerated individuals.
  • Provide on-the-job training and monitor completion of the on-the-job training requirements of in-training Corrections and Custody Officers.
  • Resolve staff issues, recognize employees, and counsel employees in work-related activities and career development.
  • Plan, assign, and review the work of staff. Adjust assignments and schedules to maintain adequate staffing levels and respond to fluctuating workloads.
  • Ensure security of institution and control movement into, out of and within the institution in accordance with established department methods and procedures.
  • Advise incarcerated individuals concerning rules, regulations, procedures, institution programs, policies, and behavior standards.
  • Evaluate employee performance and document performance appraisals.
  • Apply appropriate, constructive, and professional authority working with a diverse population of incarcerated individuals.
  • Direct or conduct inspections and searches of incarcerated individuals, their property, and the facility.
  • Use physical and/or deadly force to prevent an incarcerated individual escape, to capture an incarcerated individual escapee, and to protect human life.
  • Write incident or disciplinary reports detailing incorrect incarcerated individual behavior and violations of rules and regulations.
  • Direct officers in the preparation of infractions, logs, and other reports and review for accuracy and completeness.
  • Monitor daily activity logs for accuracy, completeness and timeliness.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Three (3) years' experience as a correctional officer in adult corrections.
  • Two (2) years' experience as a correctional officer in adult corrections and successful completion of thirty (30) semester or forty-five (45) quarter hours of accredited college-level course work.
