Lead Data Science & Informatics Specialist

• Lead and mentor a multidisciplinary data science team, setting strategy and ensuring high-quality work.
• Oversee the design and deployment of advanced analytics, forecasting models, and machine learning tools.
• Guide the use of raw, structured, and unstructured data to inform public health decisions and resource allocation.
• Partner with program leaders, local health jurisdictions, tribal partners, and other state agencies to align analytics priorities and share insights.
• Ensure scientific rigor, transparency, and reproducibility in modeling and data use.
• Represent DOH in state and national forums, contributing expertise on data science and public health.
• Drive innovation while keeping equity, accountability, and clear communication at the center of all work.

• At least 2 years of supervisory or lead experience overseeing technical staff or project teams.
• Proficiency in statistical programming and data science tools (e.g., Python, R, SQL).
• Experience working with structured and unstructured data and developing analytic models or visualization tools.
• Familiarity with data governance, quality assurance, and reproducibility practices.
• Experience with data visualization and reporting tools for communicating insights to technical and non-technical audiences.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to translate technical information into plain language.
