The Director Dispatch Operations provides Leadership and direction, as well as strategic and tactical planning, for Dispatch Operations. They collaborate with various groups such as Flight Ops, Ground Ops, Safety, and other operating departments to ensure the highest level of Safety according to the Southwest Airlines Operations Specifications, Code of Federal Regulations, and Flight Operations Manual. The Director Dispatch Operations is an organized collaborator and detail-oriented thinker who is ready to help pilot the future of Southwest Airlines.
Responsibilities
- Provide Leadership oversight and accountability for Dispatch
- Create and articulate strategic vision for Dispatch as it fits within the NOC departmental goals
- Audit Employee job performance to ensure accuracy and compliance with Company policies and government regulations
- Attend government and industry meetings to develop new processes
- Communicate changes in policy to the Dispatchers through the creation and distribution of Read before Dispatch bulletins
- Provide Leadership and direction of the Flight Dispatch office to ensure that flight movements are operated and maintained efficiently
- Monitor and ensure compliance with Dispatch guidelines, federal regulations, and Company policies
- Cultivate, support, and promote an organizational culture that provides for high performance, high morale, integrity, teamwork, and work-life balance
- Coach, mentor, conduct performance management and provide continuous feedback / on-going development of direct reports
- Understand and navigate nuances of working with a workforce covered under a Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA)
Requirements
- Expert knowledge of applicable CFRs, OpSpecs, and FAA Order 8900.1 as it pertains to dispatch, flight operations, and operational control
- Advanced knowledge of Air Traffic Control procedures, Minimum Equipment List procedures, and B737 systems, limitations, and performance
- Knowledge of business and management principles involved in strategic planning, resource allocation, human resources modeling, Leadership technique, production methods, and coordination of People and resources
- Skilled in using logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions, or approaches to problems
- Skilled in considering the relative costs and benefits of potential actions to choose the most appropriate one
- Skilled in Microsoft Office applications
- Skilled in building and leading teams
- Ability to collaborate with other internal departments on operational and regulatory issues
- Ability to communicate effectively with individuals and groups both verbally and in writing
- Ability to demonstrate self-motivation and deliver results
