About the role
The Clinical Supervisor in collaboration with the Director is responsible for the continuous safe operation of the assigned department including all aspects of patient care, staffing, fiscal responsibility and strategic goals of the unit.
Responsibilities
- Monitors infection control practices in all actions by self and others.
- Demonstrates flexibility in responding to unpredicted situations, such as emergencies, assignment and staffing or schedule changes.
- Applies skills of problem-solving techniques resulting in evidence of ongoing cooperation.
- Sets priorities independently, prepares assignments and duties at the beginning of each shift, adjusting and delegating as situations change on the unit as needed.
- Accessible to staff at all times to assist in meeting patient needs.
- Supports the growth and development of nursing personnel by facilitating assessment of educational needs on an ongoing basis.
- Evaluates the effectiveness of nursing care through patient assessment and directs nursing care.
- Coordinates and strives to improve patient care, communication and activities between ancillary departments and physicians.
- Participates in actions/changes hospital wide that improves patient care/safety and contributes to the support of Nursing Administration initiatives.
- Oversees the formal orientation of all new personnel at any level in the unit.
- Assists with the feedback on the evaluation of the orientation.
- Assists with the annual evaluations on all departmental/shift specific associates.
- Assists with evaluation and improvement of patient care by assuring an ongoing unit-based quality-monitoring program to include development and implementation of PI monitors and reports.
- Assists with assuring compliance with policies and procedures as demonstrated by staff communication.
- Displays ability and willingness to respond to the needs of other health team members as needed.
- Delegates shift duties appropriately including but not limited to chart checks, defib/refrigerator logs, abnormal lab follow up and documentation, cleaning and stocking rooms, checking rooms for outdated supplies, pulling trash/linen as needed
- Manages all aspects of patient flow reports issues to the Department Director.
Requirements
- Minimum Education: Associates degree in Nursing required.
- Minimum Experience: 2-3 years of Acute Care or comparable experience with demonstrated leadership ability preferred.
- Required Certifications/Registrations/Licenses: A valid Permanent Multi-State RN License from the state in which you reside is required.
- American Heart Association BLS CPR required, must be obtained within 7 days of hire.
- CPI certification with orientation period.
- Other certifications required are determined by specific unit and is required within orientation period.
